December 12, 2011: Former Smallville Star Begins Prison Sentence

TMZ reports that former Smallville star, Sam Jones, III, checked into Federal correctional facility in Lompoc, California earlier this week to begin serving his 366 day sentence for his part in a major Los Angeles drug ring.

Jones was arrested earlier in October, 2009 and plead guilty in June, 2011 on charges of conspiracy to sell more than 10,000 Oxycodone painkiller pills.

The L.A. District Attorney had initially requested for Jones to serve a 5-year prison term but the judge granted leniency and reduced the sentence to 366 days due to the minor role Jones played in the drug ring.

The actor formerly starred on the hit series "Smallville" for three seasons as Clark Kent's best friend, Pete Ross before leaving the show in 2004 to star in director James Gartner's basketball film, "Glory Road".

In 2008, Jones returned to "Smallville" as Pete Ross for one episode during the seventh season entitled "Hero".
