September 29, 2011: Calgary Group Breaks Superman World Record

We recently reported on the staff of Calgary based Nexen, Inc. setting out to break the Guinness Record for the "World's Largest Gathering of People Dressed As Superman" and on September 28th, that's just what they did.

The Calgary Herald reports that hundreds of staffers of the energy company kicked off their "Be a Superhero" campaign for the United Way by breaking the world record which was previously held by an athletic club in Ireland.

With a Guinness representative on hand to take an official count, 437 Nexen staffers donned the iconic Superman costume on Thursday and easily surpassed the previous record of 288.

A Guinness certificate proclaiming the new world record was presented to Nexen chief executive Marvin Romanow who accepted it on behalf of his staff.
