July 24, 2011: Superman to be Featured in 2012 Animated Films

Immediately following the San Diego Comic-Con world premier of the animated film "Batman: Year One", producer Bruce Timm announced that Superman will be featured prominently in the 2012 slate of films in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series.

"Justice League: Doom", which will be loosely based on the "JLA: Tower of Babel" comic book story arc, will star Kevin Sorbo as the Man of Steel. The late Dwayne McDuffie adapted the film's screenplay and previously worked on "All Star Superman".

Timm also spoke about another upcoming project which will feature the Man of Steel which he described as "Superman vs. The Elite". The screenplay will be based on the Action Comics #775 story by Joe Kelly and Doug Mahnke and Lee Bermejo entitled, "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?".

"Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" will be the last animated film in 2012 and, according to Timm, will be a two-part feature film. The film will be based on Frank Miller's "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" which showcased an unforgetable battle between Batman and Superman.

All three projects are currently in production and no release dates have yet been set.
