The 2011 Superman Celebration is officially underway and the Superman Super Site is once again here in Metropolis, IL to cover the 33rd year the festival has taken place!

To kick off the opening ceremony at 5pm (featured below), fans were treated to a skit which featured appearances by Perry White, Lois Lane, Bibbo Bibbowski, Gorilla Grodd, Cyborg Superman, The Flash and none other than Superman himself.

Miss Illinois then cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially start this year's celebration which was followed by Gospel Music at the Metro Tent by such groups as Cross Harmony, Brian Free and Assurance.

The evening was capped off with a fun-filled time at Bob's Bowling for the "Super Friends" Meet, Eat, Greet and Bowl followed by a pool/lobby party at the Metropolis, IL Super 8 Hotel.

The first full day of the celebration takes place on Friday and will feature such highlights as a Q & A session with celebrity guests Mark Pillow (Nuclear Man - Superman: IV) and Tracy Lewis Roberts (Darla - Adventures of Superboy); the unveiling of the Metropolis Walk of Heroes; and the 2nd Annual Superman Super Site Meet & Greet!

The Meet & Greet will take place at 11:30am on Friday in the air conditioned comfort of the world's largest Dippin Dots store which is located by the right arm of the famous Superman statue on Superman Square. It is sure to be an awesome time of food, fun, friends, & free prizes and we look forward to meeting all you fellow Superman fans there.
