May 21, 2013: Warner Bros. Settles 'Smallville' Lawsuit

by Neil A. Cole

Warner Bros. Television has been able to avoid a jury trial by reaching a settlement in their multimillion-dollar lawsuit with the creators of the hit tv series, "Smallville."

Lawyers for both WBTV and co-creators/writers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough appeared before LA Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson in a hearing on Monday and announced that both parties had reached the settlement in their breach of contract and conflict of interest dispute. Both parties now have until August 30th to file a formal request for dismissal.

The lawsuit began in March, 2010 when Millar and Gough along with Tollin/Robbins Productions filed a $100 million vertical integration suit against WBTV claiming that the studio signed low-balling licensing deals with The WB Network and later, The CW Network. The Tollin/Robbins portion of the lawsuit was settled out of court earlier this year.

No details of the current settlement have been made public.
