May 16, 2012: Remaining Seasons of "Superboy" TV Series to be Released
Superboy Homepage Editor-in-Chief, Sam Rizzo has informed the Superman Super Site that Warner Bros. Home Video is planning to release the entire "Superboy" tv series in the very near future.
According to Rizzo, all the original footage from seasons 2-4 of the series has been discovered in the WB film vault. It was originally thought, even by series producer Ilya Salkind, that the original film elements had been destroyed but that is apparently now not the case.
Rizzo went on to state that WHV is currently deciding whether to release each season of the series on DVD/Bluray or in the form of on-demand DVD sets through Warner Archives which would feature only bare-bone episodes.
Until now, WHV have only released the first season of "Superboy" in DVD format (in 2006) with specualtion being that the remaining seasons had not received the same treatment due to lackluster sales of the season 1 DVD.
However, many fans agree that the series improved greatly with the debut of Season 2 which saw major changes such as Gerard Christopher replacing John Haymes Newton in the lead role of Superboy/Clark Kent and Sherman Howard taking over the role of Lex Luthor from Scott Wells.
The project is currently in the very early stages of development with Warner Bros. currently compiling all the necessary film elements to move forward.
With Superman returning to theaters next summer in "Man of Steel", it's possible that the "Superboy" series' release will tie into another "Year of Superman" campaign like WHV promoted leading up to the release of "Superman Returns" in 2006.
Whether or not this will be the case remains to be seen though.
