April 14, 2011: Superman Reboot to Feature Villianess Faora?

Latino Review is reporting that a "reliable source" has provided them with a few more details about Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, "Man of Steel."

According to the source, "Man of Steel" will have a "Batman Begins" feel to it and feature the origin story of Superman up through present day but not in the way Richard Donner presented it to audiences.

Superman's Kryptonian parents Jor-el, whom Daniel Day-Lewis was supposedly looked at for the role, and Lara will be featured in the film as well a futuristic Krypton (similar to Coruscant from Star Wars) as opposed to the crystal planet from the original films.

The source goes on to state that the Kryptonian villainess Faora (whom the character of Ursa from "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman: II" was based) will appear alongside General Zod, a role that actor Michael Shannon recently garnered.

Here is a biography of Faora:

Faora Hu-Ul was a serial killer born on the planet Krypton. A self-professed "man-hater", she targeted only male Kryptonians and ran a concentration camp where she kept other Kryptonians as slaves. Faora Hu-Ul claimed over twenty-three lives before she was arrested. Faora was sentenced to over three-hundred years of incarceration inside the Phantom Zone - the longest sentence ever handed to a female prisoner, and the second-longest sentence over all. As Faora was trapped inside the Phantom Zone, she, along with many others, survived the destruction of Krypton.

Faora was an expert at the Kryptonian martial art of Horo-Kanu, which utilized the pressure points on the Kryptonian body. This made her an extremely dangerous foe for Superman to face in hand-to-hand combat—he was forced to flee from their first encounter.

Whether any of these new revelations will turn out to be true remains to be seen and should be treated strictly as rumor for now.

Filming is set to begin on "Man of Steel" this August with a tentative release date scheduled for the December, 2012 Christmas season.
