February 19, 2013: Tom Welling Joins Cast of JFK Drama

by Neil A. Cole

Former Smallville star, Tom Welling, has joined the cast of the upcoming JFK assassination drama, "Parkland."

As opposed to the actual assassination, "Parkland" will focus heavily on the events that occured afterwards at Dallas' Parkland Hospital on the day that former United States president John F. Kennedy was shot.

This will be Welling's first starring role since the hit series "Smallville" ended it's successful 10-year run on May 13, 2011. It will also be the first time Welling has starred in a feature-film role since his appearance in the highly forgettable 2005 remake of John Carpenter's classic 1980 horror film, "The Fog."

Welling's only other feature-film role has been in Cheaper by The Dozen (2003) and it's sequel, Cheaper by The Dozen 2 (2005) in which he starred as Charlie Baker; one of Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt's twelve children.

In "Parkland", Welling will star alongside a virtual "who's-who" of A-list actors including Billy Bob Thornton (Armageddon, Sling Blade), Zac Efron (17 Again, The Lucky One), Jackie Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook) and Paul Giamatti (The Illusionist, Saving Private Ryan).

The film was written and directed by Peter Landesman and will be produced by veteran actor Tom Hanks. A release date has yet to be announced.
