January 24, 2013: Florida Barber Shop Settles Over Superman Lawsuit

A recent report by Law360 states that the Orange County, FL barber shop which was facing a potential lawsuit from DC Comics for infringing on its trademark of the Superman character has reached a settlement in the case. Here's an excerpt from the article:

A Florida federal judge on Tuesday signed off on a settlement that resolves trademark infringement claims lodged by Time Warner Inc.'s DC Comics against a barbershop owner who allegedly used DC's protected "Superman" logos without permission.

DC has agreed to settle its suit alleging that Reginal B. Jones — who owns two barbershops in [Eatonville and Winter Park] Florida that operate under the names "Supermen's Fades to Fro's" and "Supermen Fades to Fros" — used promotional materials that infringed DC's "Superman" trademarks.

"DC Comics has decided to pick on me because they know I am a small local barber and cannot afford the big lawyers they can," said Jones in a November statement pertaining to the lawsuit. "I am asking that you look very carefully at what they are trying to do and not let them take advantage of me."

Specific details pertaining to the settlement were not immediately available.
