January 23, 2012: Superman Display Planned for Cleveland, OH Airport

Cleveland.com reports that a new Superman display may soon greet airline travelers at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport near the baggage retrieval area.

"We want Superman to be one of the first things people see when they fly into the airport," said Irving Fine, one of the founders of the society formed to honor Superman and his creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster of the Glenville neighborhood. "We want to remind people that Superman was created right here in Cleveland. DC Comics says Superman was born on Krypton, but there was no Krypton until Jerry Siegel created it."

If Fine sounds overly proud of the city's Superman heritage, it's because his cousin is Siegel.

Siegel and Shuster Society President Michael Olszewski said the display will educate passers-by about the Man of Steel. Olszewski and fellow society member Brad Ricca, who teaches a course in comics at Case Western Reserve University, will write the text to accompany the display.

The Cleveland City Council is expected to vote on the Superman display on Monday night.
