An original Superman flying tunic worn on screen by actor Christopher Reeve in "Superman: IV - The Quest for Peace" has sold at auction for $13,128 (£9,760).

The tunic was featured as one of the over 600 iconic lots of original props, costumes and rare production material up for bids at the Prop Store Film and TV Memorabilia auction which recently took place at the BFI IMAX located in the South Bank district of London, England.

Created specifically for use in flying sequences throughout the 1987 film, the original tunic met it's expected sell price which was only £8k-£10k.

Top selling items included a jacket worn by actor Jack Nicholson in his role as Jack Torrance in "The Shining" which went for $98,461 (£73,200), the Alien creature costume from "Aliens" which sold for $82,051 (£61,000) and a C-3PO special effects head from "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" that went for $98,461 (£73,200).

Prior to the auction, a free museum worthy preview exhibition was open to the public showcasing over 250 lots.
