In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns spoke about the future of DC Films and that the upcoming slate of releases will have a lighter and more hopeful tone.
"Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, 'Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that's what makes them different.' That couldn't be more wrong," stated Johns. “It's a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he'd make tomorrow better, he'd stop."
In regard to the overall tone of next years "Justice League" film, Warner Bros. executive Jon Berg stated that the movie will indeed be "less depressing than Batman v Superman" following changes which were made to the screenplay by Berg and Johns as well as director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio.
"We accelerated the story to get to the hope and optimism a little faster," said Berg. "We're trying to take a really hard look at everything to make sure we stay true to the characters and tell stories that celebrate them."
"Justice League" premieres in theaters worldwide on November 17, 2017.
