August 27, 2013: Bryan Cranston NOT Lex Luthor in "Man of Steel" Sequel

Posted by Neil Cole

Contrary to a recent report that "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston had been cast as Lex Luthor in the 2015 follow-up to "Man of Steel", the rumored 'scoop' is simply not true.

While Cranston was rumored a few weeks ago to be in contention for the role of Superman's arch-nemesis, the closest that rumor came to reality was Cranston responding to the news by jokingly telling a reporter to "Give me a call, I like Lex Luthor."

This little quote from Cranston resulted in an obviously fake article to be posted by a certain website in which the writer boasted that "multiple inside sources" had informed them that the actor had indeed been cast in the role.

Unfortunately, various media outlets including the Rolling Stone picked up on the story and subsequently reported on it as fact even though there were blatent lies throughout including claims that Cranston had signed a 10-picture deal for upcoming Batman/Superman films and an absolutely absurd scoop that Matt Damon was being considered for the role of Aquaman.

Furthermore, neither Warner Bros. nor Zack Snyder has even stated whether Lex will be in the next film and, if so, who they even have in mind to play the role. While Cranston does have a shaved head, there is nothing else connecting him to the 2015 film.

Although it may be unneccessary since this "confirmed" casting is clearly the fictional work of an overly obsessed fanboy, we have reached out to Mr. Cranston's publicist for a statement pertaining to the story. When and if we receive a reply, it will be posted here.

Some casting rumors are fun (Robin Williams as the Joker) or just plain silly (Eddie Murphy as the Riddler). However, to claim one such as this as being "official" is just blatently stupid.
