May 6, 2014: Drive-In Theater to Host Superman Screenings

Posted by Neil Cole

The Transit Drive-In Theater in Lockport, NY will feature back-to-back screenings of "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman: II" on Tuesday, July 1st beginning at 9:15pm.

One of the most well-regarded superhero films of all time, "Superman: The Movie" was a box-office smash when it rocketed to Earth in 1978. The last son of the dead planet Krypton, Kal-El (Christopher Reeve) is found as a baby by Jonathan and Martha Kent when his spaceship crashes just outside of Smallville, USA. Given the name "Clark" by his adopted parents, the boy grows up strong in the American heartland, developing amazing powers under the light of the yellow sun. One day, Clark finds a glowing crystal, and with it finds out about his alien heritage, the knowledge imparted to him by his birth father, Jor-El (Marlon Brando). The boy becomes a man, and moves to Metropolis to work for the Daily Planet newspaper, finding love in Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and danger in the form of criminal genius Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman).

"Superman: II" features Golden Globe-nominee Christopher Reeve (The Remains of the Day, Deathtrap), Academy Award-winner Gene Hackman (The Birdcage, Unforgiven) and an all-star cast back again in this sequel to the boxoffice smash that continues the great adventures of the Man of Steel. Superman enters the battle of his life when he fights to save the planet Earth from three intergalactic arch-criminals whose powers are as fantastic as his own. Spectacular action, unlimited surprises abound, as Superman again faces a cosmic confrontation between good and evil. Amidst it all is the will-they-or-won't-they romance of the ever-flirtatious Lois 'n Clark. Co-starring Margot Kidder (Maverick) as Lois Lane, Ned Beatty (Roseanne) and Academy Award-nominees Valerie Perrine (ER) and Terence Stamp (The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert).

The screenings are part of the theater's annual "Retro Movie Tuesdays" which showcases classic and iconic films from the 1970's and 80's.

Admission to the double screening is $9 for ages 12 and older; children 5 - 11 are $4; and children 4 and under are free. Concessions will also be available for purchase for an additional charge.
