Entertainment Weekly has named "Superman: II" as one of their top 20 best summer blockbusters of all time. The film comes in at the #14 position.
Following many obstacles while in production which, among other things, saw original director, Richard Donner being replaced by Richard Lester, "Superman: II" premiered on June 19, 1981 to positive reviews and universal acclaim.
Superman fans are, of course, familiar with the film's plot in which the three Kryptonian villains from the first movie; General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas), and Non (Jack O'Halloran); escape from the Phantom Zone and arrive on Earth to enslave humanity and exact vengeance on the son of their jailer, Jor-El. Unfortunately, their arrival coincides with Clark Kent's (Christopher Reeve) decision to give up his powers for his true love, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder).
"Superman: II" was a huge financial success earning $14.1 million in it's opening weekend before going on to take in $108.2 million domestically. When adjusted for inflation, that is $324.9 million in 2014 dollars.
Other films making the top 20 list include "Back to the Future," "Independence Day," "Toy Story 3," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."
