March 1, 2017: Superman Museum Suffers Damage from Recent Storm

Posted by Neil Cole

The Super Museum in Metropolis, IL recently suffered damage to part of their collection as the result of a recent powerful storm that struck the area overnight.

"Straight-line winds came through around 4:00am and blew out the window in the Supergirl section," says Super Museum curator Morgan Siebert. "The original costume from 'Supergirl - The Movie' was knocked over and some of the posters & other items are very water damaged."

"The bracelet worn by Helen Slater in the film made it out fine," adds Siebert. "It could have been a lot worse. I'm just really sad."

The total amount of damage to the collection is currently being assessed by Siebert and her father, Superman enthusiast & collector Jim Hambrick. At this time, only the store section is open to the public but they hope to have the full museum re-opened as soon as possible.

The Super Museum features 20,000+ items from the life's work of Hambrick who has amassed one of the greatest collections of Superman memorabilia in the world.
