January 24, 2015: General Zod to Return as Doomsday in "Batman v Superman"?
A new rumor suggests that Doomsday could possibly be featured in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as a resurrected General Zod.
The latest rumor involving the highly anticipated film comes courtesy of Comicbook.com which states that they "are hearing" that actor Michael Shannon will return as a lifeless Zod before being reanimated by LexCorp into "the mindless killing machine at the center of The Death of Superman."
Once he's Doomsday, of course, it's likely that Zod's body will take on the appearance of Doomsday, and from that point on he could be anybody. Another actor could do the heavy lifting, or even a stunt performer, none of whom would necessarily have been recognizable on set, whereas any extended period of time that Zod spent would have been noted. Meanwhile, Shannon could have done whatever mocap wasn't already catalogued from Man of Steel on a closed set, even far away from the action if needed, if they decided that it would be him to do Doomsday.
Rumors concerning "Batman v Superman" should always be taken with a grain of salt until such time that an official confirmation is made by Warner Bros., but this latest bit of "news" - especially considering that there are no sources to back it up - has fan-boy rumor written all over it.
While it is true that Shannon was photographed alongside Henry Cavill back in November near the Chicago set, he was only in town for a charity event and nothing to do with the film.
Other rumors concerning Doomsday being featured in "Batman v Superman" have popped up in the past and, eventually, it may be proven that the character will indeed have a role in the film. However, the likelihood of General Zod having anything to do with Doomsday in one form or another is, at this point, completely untrue.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" premieres in US theaters on March 25th, 2016.
