December 31, 2014: Gemma Atkinson Auditions for Supergirl Role?

British actress Gemma Atkinson has reportedly auditioned for the lead role of Supergirl in the upcoming CBS television series of the same name.

According to the UK tabloid The Sun, the former "Hollyoaks" British soap opera star is now in contention for the Kara Zor-El role.

"Gemma is a huge fan of comic books so this is something she'd jump at," stated a source supposedly close to the actress. "It will make her huge Stateside. She said next year will be her best yet whatever happens. If she gets Supergirl it will be amazing, or if she begins working on Emmerdale that will be great too."

Atkinson is now the second actress rumored to be linked to the Supergirl role. "The Vampire Diaries" actress Claire Holt reportedly auditoned for the role earlier this month.

Considering this latest rumor comes from a news source that is notoriously dubious, please take it with a huge grain of salt until such time that a confirmation is announced.

"Supergirl" will be executively-produced & written by "Arrow" and "Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti and "New Normal's" Ali Adler along with Sarah Schechter.

The series will be the fifth based on a DC Comics character currently airing on television including "Gotham" (FOX), "The Flash" (CW Network), "Arrow" (CW Network), and "Constantine" (NBC).
