September 29, 2010: Robert Zemeckis Latest Director Attached to Superman Reboot

Robert Zemeckis could be returning behind the camera to direct the upcoming reboot of the Superman movie franchise.

According to Deadline, Zemeckis is the latest potential director to be on Warner Bros list to take the reigns of the next Superman film. If Warner Bros does indeed negotiate a deal with Zemeckis, it would be the "Forrest Gump" director's first live-action film since the 2000 movie "Cast Away".

Since that film, Zemeckis has been working strictly in the realm of 3D animated films such as "The Polar Express," "Beowulf" and "A Christmas Carol" along with the upcoming Beatles movie "Yellow Submarine."

He in currently in negotiations to produce "Timeless," a time travel pitch set up at Warner Bros. that Mike Thompson will write.

Warner Bros. recently worked with Thompson on "Oh Happy Day," which is envisioned as a star vehicle for Johnny Depp. The studio recently hired him to perform a rewrite on "The Last Summer of You and Me" for valued producer Denise DiNovi.

Zemeckis is represented by CAA, while ICM represents Thompson.
