An ultra-rare copy "Superman #1" has been acquired by Toronto based comic book shop The Beguiling and is expected to sell for around $45,000.
Superman #1 was first published in 1939 and gave the Man of Steel the distinction of being the first ever superhero to be featured in more than one comic magazine.
Roughly 200 copies of the rare comic are still in existence and mint condition copies have sold for as much as $500,000 in the past. However, this particular copy has been restored which greatly effects the overall value.
"It's so convenient that with the imminent death of Superman and DC re-launching its whole universe that we can give local comic fans the chance to see a piece of history," stated Beguiling owner Peter Birkemoe. "It'll be sold in a week. These things don't stick around long."
The comic will be on display at The Beguiling which is also hosting a midnight release party for "DC Universe: Rebirth" this evening at 11:45PM.
