Officers from the Austin, TX police department's SWAT Team recently donned superhero costumes and surprised the young patients at Dell Children's Medical Center when they descended from helicopters and down the facade of the building.
Officers dressed up as Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Man, Star Lord, Bat Girl, and Wonder Woman. The Superheroes were after the Joker who had stolen the children's teddy bears and ice cream.
"He surrendered to us as soon as he found out he was outnumbered," said Senior Police Officer Matt Harmatuck, who was dressed as Superman. "The first time you go down that rope and you see one of the kids faces light up, you can tell immediately they forget the reasons about why they’re here. And that's why we’re here today - to put a smile on their faces."
According to Asst. Police Chief Jason Dusterhoft, plans are underway to make "Superheroes Day" an annual tradition at Dell Children's.
