U.S. Mint to Release Supergirl Gold Coin and Silver Medals October 1

The United States Mint will expand its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program on Oct. 1 with a new collection honoring Supergirl, offering the DC Super Hero on a 24-karat gold proof coin and two fine silver medals.

Orders will open at noon EDT for the fourth character release in the multi-year program, which is being produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. The Supergirl lineup follows earlier releases honoring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman and continues the Mint's effort to celebrate comic art as a uniquely American art form.

The collection includes a half-ounce, 24-karat .9999 fine gold $50 proof coin struck at the West Point Mint, a 2.5-ounce 99.9% fine silver medal and a one-ounce 99.9% fine silver medal, with both medals struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The one-ounce medal is priced at $200 with no announced mintage limit, while the 2.5-ounce medal will sell for $400 and is limited to 25,000 pieces. The gold proof coin has a maximum mintage of 10,000, with its sale price to be determined through the U.S. Mint's precious-metals pricing grid.

U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna designed and sculpted the obverse, which depicts Supergirl flying above the clouds with her cape billowing behind her. The gold coin carries the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2026," while the 2.5-ounce silver medal features "LIBERTY" and "2026" and the one-ounce medal features "LIBERTY."

Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill designed and sculpted the reverse, featuring Supergirl and Krypto surrounded by a starburst. The gold coin includes "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "$50," "1/2 OZ" and ".9999 FINE GOLD." The silver medals feature "SUPERGIRL," "BRAVERY LIFTS HER" and "GRACE GUIDES HER," highlighting the themes of bravery and grace associated with the character.

Each coin and medal will be encapsulated and presented in a display case with a Certificate of Authenticity. The gold coin and 2.5-ounce silver medal will each include an individually numbered certificate. Household orders will initially be limited to one of each product during the first 24 hours of sales.

The Mint also opened enrollment Aug. 17 for its Comic Art One Ounce Silver Medal Product Subscription Program. Subscribers can automatically receive future one-ounce medal releases in the series, with subscriptions currently limited to five medals per household, subject to change.

Supergirl is one of three characters joining the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program in 2026, along with Robin and Green Lantern. The program launched in 2025 with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, while The Flash, Batgirl and Aquaman are scheduled for 2027.
