"Man of Tomorrow" (2027)

Man of Tomorrow is an upcoming American superhero film based on DC Comics characters, featuring the character Superman. Written and directed by James Gunn, it is intended to be the fourth film in the DC Universe (DCU) and a sequel to Superman (2025). The film is produced by DC Studios and stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman alongside Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, María Gabriela de Faría, Aaron Pierre, and Lars Eidinger.

In the film, Superman and Lex Luthor are forced to work together against the extraterrestrial android Brainiac. Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 9, 2027, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Premise

Following the events of Superman (2025), Clark Kent / Superman faces a new threat when the advanced alien intelligence Brainiac arrives on Earth. To stop Brainiac's plans, Superman forms an uneasy alliance with his longtime enemy Lex Luthor. Together, they must confront a danger that threatens not only Earth but the wider galaxy.

Production

Following the release of Superman (2025), DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn began developing a sequel centered on Superman's continuing role within the DC Universe. The project was officially announced in 2025 under the title Man of Tomorrow. Gunn wrote the screenplay and signed on to direct the film.

David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles from Superman. Several actors from previous and upcoming DCU projects also return, including Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, María Gabriela de Faría, and Aaron Pierre. In 2026, Lars Eidinger was cast as Brainiac, the film's primary antagonist.

Principal photography began in April 2026 under the working title Exodus. Filming locations include Atlanta and Fayetteville, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and locations in the United Kingdom. Production is based at Trilith Studios.

Sam McCurdy serves as cinematographer, while Fred Raskin is the film's editor.

Music

The musical score is composed by David Fleming, who previously worked on Superman (2025).

Release

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on July 9, 2027. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and is part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, the first chapter of the DC Universe franchise.

Future

The film is expected to continue the overarching narrative established in the DC Universe and further develop connections to other DC Studios projects, including Peacemaker, Lanterns, and future ensemble films.
