Superman and Krypto Statues Planned for Burbank's Growing DC Super Hero Trail

Burbank, California, is preparing to add Superman and Krypto to its growing collection of larger-than-life DC Super Hero statues, continuing a public-art partnership that has already brought bronze monuments of Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern John Stewart to the city.

Plans for the Man of Steel were formally considered by the Burbank Hospitality Association as part of Visit Burbank's destination-development program. Meeting records describe the project as a bronze Superman statue that would become the fifth DC Super Hero statue in Burbank. The board voted 7-0-1 to approve Superman as the next Super Hero statue after reviewing early concept artwork and potential installation locations.

An initial location under consideration was the green space in front of the Garry Marshall Theatre, with DC hoping at the time for an April 2026 unveiling tied to Superman Day. Visit Burbank officials also reopened discussions with the Airport Commission about placing the statue at the new Hollywood Burbank Airport terminal. According to the meeting record, an airport installation would require moving the unveiling to late 2026.

Additional evidence that the project has advanced beyond the planning stage comes from Burbank-based American Fine Arts Foundry. The company, which has worked on previous monumental DC sculptures in the city, currently cites a seven-and-a-half-foot-tall bronze Superman statue in Burbank as a recent example of its large-scale casting work and states that the piece was commissioned by the City of Burbank.

Krypto Statue Also Moving Forward

Superman's four-legged companion is also scheduled to receive his own bronze tribute. Burbank Hospitality Association records show that a foundry quote totaling $96,150 was presented for the 3D printing, shipping, casting, delivery and bronze plaque associated with the Krypto statue.

Krypto is planned for the new Dick Clark Dog Park in Burbank. The statue's installation was pushed into 2026 because of delays involving completion of the park, according to a subsequent Visit Burbank destination-development update.

Expanding Burbank's DC Super Hero Trail

The Superman and Krypto projects continue a series of monumental DC installations created to strengthen Burbank's identity as the “Media Capital of the World” and provide visitors with destinations tied to characters whose film, television and animation histories are closely associated with the city.

Burbank's existing public DC statues include Batman in Downtown Burbank, Wonder Woman at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood and Green Lantern John Stewart at the Empire Center's Hangar 28. Visit Burbank's current DC statue guide states that additional heroes are on the way as the partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery and DC continues.

As of September 20, Visit Burbank has not publicly announced a final unveiling date or confirmed final installation location for the Superman statue. The available planning documents indicate that the new Hollywood Burbank Airport terminal has been under consideration, while the Krypto installation remains tied to completion of the Dick Clark Dog Park.
