A classic adventure featuring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel will return to the big screen this fall when the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois, presents Richard Donner’s landmark 1978 film “Superman: The Movie” on November 25, 2026.

The special screening is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the historic theater, located at 23 E. Galena Blvd. in downtown Aurora. The film stars Reeve as Clark Kent/Superman, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane and Gene Hackman as criminal mastermind Lex Luthor.

Released in December 1978, “Superman: The Movie” follows the last son of Krypton from his arrival on Earth and childhood in Smallville to his emergence as Metropolis’ costumed protector. The film became a landmark in the superhero genre and earned a Special Achievement Academy Award for its visual effects, helping convince audiences that, as its famous advertising promised, they would “Believe a man can fly.”

Directed by Donner, the film also features Marlon Brando as Jor-El, Glenn Ford as Jonathan Kent, Phyllis Thaxter as Martha Kent, Jackie Cooper as Daily Planet editor Perry White, Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen, Ned Beatty as Otis and Valerie Perrine as Eve Teschmacher. John Williams composed the film’s celebrated musical score.

The Paramount Theatre describes the film as a groundbreaking entry that helped reshape the superhero movie and launch a blockbuster tradition that continues decades later. The Aurora, IL venue has regularly featured classic films as part of its movie programming.
