Superman Sequel, 'Man of Tomorrow' Wraps Principal Photography

DC Studios’ upcoming “Man of Tomorrow” has officially completed principal photography, with writer-director James Gunn marking the end of filming on the highly anticipated follow-up to 2025’s “Superman.” The production wrapped Wednesday after several months of filming, moving the next chapter in Gunn’s expanding Superman saga into post-production ahead of its July 9, 2027 theatrical release.

Gunn commemorated the final day of production with photos from the set, including one featuring Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult taking a celebratory swim following the last shot. The filmmaker described working on the movie as a joyful experience and expressed his appreciation for the cast and crew who helped bring the project to life. Filming began in April and included production work in Georgia, the United Kingdom and Cincinnati.

“Man of Tomorrow” will see David Corenswet return as Clark Kent/Superman alongside Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The story places Superman and his longtime adversary in the unusual position of having to work together against a significantly greater threat, with Lars Eidinger portraying the super-intelligent alien villain Brainiac. Gunn has previously indicated that the film will delve further into Luthor as a character while continuing Superman’s story within the developing DC Universe.

The expanding ensemble also includes returning DC Universe performers Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. Aaron Pierre is also set to appear as Green Lantern John Stewart, while Adria Arjona, Matthew Lillard and Andre Royo have joined the production in additional roles.

Gunn wrote and directed “Man of Tomorrow” and produces alongside DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO Peter Safran. The film continues the interconnected DC Universe launched theatrically with “Superman” and is part of the studio’s “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate. With principal photography now complete, the production moves into an extensive post-production period that will include editing, visual effects and scoring ahead of its arrival in theaters.

Warner Bros. Pictures is scheduled to release “Man of Tomorrow” in theaters on July 9, 2027.
