“Supergirl” Soars to No. 1 Streaming Spot on HBO Max
“Supergirl” has found new momentum on streaming, soaring to the No. 1 movie position on HBO Max following its arrival on the platform earlier this month.
The DC Studios adventure debuted on HBO Max on September 10th and quickly climbed the service’s movie rankings. Streaming analytics service FlixPatrol listed “Supergirl” as the No. 1 movie worldwide on HBO Max on September 12th, while the film has continued to rank prominently across multiple international markets.
The strong streaming debut gives “Supergirl” another opportunity to expand its audience following its theatrical release. The film earned approximately $126 million worldwide at the box office, with its subsequent arrival on digital platforms, physical media and HBO Max extending the reach of Milly Alcock’s first solo outing as Kara Zor-El.
Its performance on HBO Max also places one of the newest chapters of the DC Universe before a broad at-home audience as DC Studios continues developing its interconnected slate of film and television projects. The early streaming results provide another indication of audience interest in Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl beyond the film’s theatrical run.
Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, “Supergirl” follows Kara as she embarks on an interstellar journey and becomes involved in Ruthye Marye Knoll’s pursuit of Krem of the Yellow Hills. The adventure forces Kara to confront loss, justice and revenge while forging a path distinctly her own.
Alcock leads a cast that includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El and Emily Beecham as Alura. David Corenswet appears as Superman, while Jason Momoa makes his DC Universe debut as Lobo. James Gunn and Peter Safran produced the film for DC Studios.
“Supergirl” is now streaming on HBO Max and is also available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
