Ahead of the highly anticipated release of Supergirl on June 26, Spotify is once again teaming up with DC Studios to launch an in-app Supergirl scavenger hunt and the official Supergirl playlist experience - featuring curated playlists inspired by key characters from the film, including Supergirl, Ruthye, and Lobo.
Here's how the scavenger hunt works:
• Fans are tasked with finding Krypto across Spotify to collect a code that unlocks an exclusive clip from the film.
• Users receive in-app clues directing them to specific destinations, including:
◦ Supergirl's "official" tracks
◦ Superman's "official" tracks
◦ Supergirl's theme song
◦ Superman's theme song
• Krypto will appear across select DCU-owned entities within Spotify, with each instance featuring a letter or two as a thought bubble.
• Fans will collect all letters to complete a code, then enter it in Spotify Search to unlock an exclusive film clip.
Also starting tomorrow (6/17), fans can explore curated playlists for the three characters, each introduced or curated by the film's talent and filmmakers, including Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, and James Gunn.
On curating the Supergirl playlist, Milly explains in her video intro that Kara is deeply music-driven and uses songs as a crutch to get through what she's experiencing. The playlist was built to follow her emotional journey throughout the film in a loose chronological order, reflecting how Kara's feelings shift at different points in the story.
• Supergirl (introduced and curated by Milly Alcock): A nostalgic blend of indie edge, pop-punk attitude, and euphoric pop, featuring tracks like "HOT TO GO!" by Chappell Roan, "Just a Girl" by No Doubt, "Sk8er Boi" by Avril Lavigne, "Security" by Amyl and the Sniffers, "End of Beginning" by Djo, and more.
• Ruthye (introduced by Eve Ridley): A brooding, emotionally charged mix of haunting folk, gothic rock, and cinematic pop, featuring tracks like "Take Me to Church" by Hozier, "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap, "Me and the Devil" by Soap&Skin, "The Funeral" by Band of Horses, "Abracadabra" by Lady Gaga, and more.
• Lobo (curated by James Gunn): A mix of hardcore punk, metal, and hard rock built for chaos, featuring tracks like "Waiting Room" by Fugazi, "Mother" by Danzig, "I'm Scum" by IDLES, "Square Hammer" by Ghost, "Brutal Planet" by Alice Cooper, and more.
This activation builds on Spotify's ongoing slate of fandom-driven on-platform experiences, including last year's DC collaboration around Superman, when Spotify partnered with DC Studios and filmmaker James Gunn to curate character-driven playlists for Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Green Lantern, and more.
