Smallville Superfest Postponed Until 2020

by Neil Cole

The Annual Smallville Superfest in Plano, IL will unfortunately not take place this year and has been postponed until 2020.

The popular event has taken place each August over the past seven years after the town was selected to double as Clark Kent's hometown of Smallville in the 2013 blockbuster film, "Man of Steel".

"The [Superfest] organizers said that the committee wanted to go back to the roots and really make it a super fest," said Special Events Committee Chairperson Barb Nadeau. "They really like the superhero concept that everybody needs a hero and they really like the fact that they can have the superheroes walking the streets of Plano."

"They're looking at more of a Comic-Con or C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) kind of feel so they want to pull that in and that's going to take a little bit of work."

Even though there will not be a Smallville Superfest this year, fans can still visit the town's Smallville Museum throughout the year which features a vast collection of props and other items used during the filming of "Man of Steel".

Also, to help fill the void of the festival being postponed until next year, the town of Plano will hold it's first ever Heritage Fest which will take place downtown in a few weeks on Saturday, June 1st.
