Siegel & Shuster Society Hosting Cleveland Superman Celebration

Posted on March 12, 2026 by Neil Cole

The Siegel & Shuster Society will host The Cleveland Superman Celebration on April 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Tower in Cleveland, OH. The event will feature a special luncheon event commemorating the anniversary of Action Comics #1 - the historic publication that introduced Superman to the world.

Created in Cleveland in 1938 by teenagers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster of the city's Glenville neighborhood, Superman - once described as "the champion of the oppressed" - has grown into one of the most recognizable and influential characters in global popular culture. The event will serve as the first in what organizers plan to be an annual luncheon celebrating the publication that launched the modern superhero genre.

The celebration also reflects Cleveland's renewed connection to the Man of Steel following production of the 2025 "Superman" film, directed by James Gunn, which brought a major Hollywood production to the region. Last year, the city also unveiled Siegel & Shuster Plaza, a permanent tribute to the creators featuring statues of Superman that has quickly become a popular destination for fans and visitors alike.

As part of the program, attendees will enjoy a live interview with Bill Garvey, president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, who will discuss the effort which went into bringing the Superman production to Cleveland and share behind-the-scenes insights from the filming process. The discussion will be moderated by Valentino Zullo, board member of the Siegel & Shuster Society, assistant professor of English, and co-director of the Rust Belt Humanities Lab at Ursuline College, and will include an audience Q&A session.

Tickets for the event are priced at US$19.38, a nod to the year Superman first appeared in print. Each ticket includes a buffet lunch, the live interview and audience Q&A, and an exclusive signed and numbered collectible poster created specifically for the event and available only to attendees.
