Route 66 Superman Museum Set to Re-Open

The Supertam on 66 Superman Museum and Ice Cream Parlor in historic Carterville, MO will soon be re-open under new ownership.

Local Joplin residents, Chris and Andrea Briley recently purchased the business from former owner Larry Tamminen who made the difficult decision to close the business in May following a five-month battle with pneumonia and bronchitis.

Tamminen opened Supertam on 66 in 2006 and, in addition to the ice cream parlor, filled the Superman Museum portion of the building with over 2,600 pieces of memorabilia collected over a span of nearly 40 years including vintage toys, figurines, activity books, board games, newspaper clippings, and autographs.

The new owners have stated that while they have big plans for the business, there will be no dramatic changes made; the name will remain the same, the same flavors of ice cream will be served, and Tamminen's Superman memorabilia collection will continue to be showcased throughout the building.

"We were happy to have found a couple who wants to keep the parlor exactly the same," stated Tamminen's wife, Barbara in an interview with the Joplin Globe. "We are glad (Andrea and Chris) are excited about the travelers and Route 66."

Supertam on 66 is located at 221 West Main (Route 66) in Carterville, MO. For more information, visit their official Facebook page.
