Original "Superman: The Movie" Storyboards Available at Auction

A collection of original storyboard sketches from "Superman: The Movie" by the 1978 film's illustrator, Ivor Beddoes are currently available at auction with a starting bid of £25,000.00.
The storyboard sketches originate from the private collection of author George Locke and are available through Peter Harrington Rare Books in London, England which recently featured the collection at the California International Antiquarian Book Fair in San Francisco, CA.
The superb collection are of Beddoes's preparatory sketches for Superman (1978) starring Christopher Reeve, from the iconic early scene in which Superman's biological parents, played by Marlon Brando and Susannah York, send their infant to earth in a crystal spaceship. Beddoes (1909-1981) was a major British set designer and story-board artist, whose career ranged from Powell & Pressburger classics such as Black Narcissus (1947) and The Red Shoes (1948), to foundational sci-fi movies as Star Wars (Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980).
The collection features:
• 18 leaves (approx. 202 x 300 mm), hole-punched left
• 17 pencil sketches on transparency (14 with opaque backing paper)
• 1 leaf with "Final Shooting Sequence" written in manuscript fibre-tip
• Stains from adhesive on backing paper, edges occasionally toned and slightly foxed with a few nicks, largely very well preserved
At the time of its premier on 10 December 1978, Superman was the most expensive film ever made. It was wildly successful and won a Special Achievement Academy Award for Visual Effects. The groundbreaking work presaged Hollywood's obsession with superhero film franchises, and in 2017 it was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress's National Film Registry.
