Milly Alcock is sharing new insight into the deeply personal connection she feels to Kara Zor-El as anticipation continues to grow around Supergirl. In a recent interview with Variety, the actress reflected on the experiences that shaped her journey long before stepping into one of DC's most iconic roles, offering fans a glimpse into the emotional perspective she brings to the character.
Looking back on her early years, Alcock described a modest upbringing and the realities of finding her footing while pursuing acting. Recalling a vivid chapter from her younger years, she said, "I sound like a Roald Dahl character. I was living in the attic in my family home because we didn't have enough rooms - it was so hot in there." She added, "I was a stick of a thing. I was washing these dishes so proudly and so terribly, and it was an open kitchen so everyone could see me."
As she prepares to introduce a new version of Kara Zor-El to audiences, Alcock revealed that her own personal experiences unexpectedly mirrored the emotional journey of the character. Rather than approaching the role solely through spectacle or mythology, the actress found meaning in the internal struggles that define Kara's story.
"My personal experience of being Milly mirrored Kara's experience, which was 'Hide. Run away. Pretend it's not happening,'" Alcock explained. Reflecting on the emotional growth embedded in the character's journey, she continued, "And then you have to face it to heal a part of yourself that you've been neglecting."
With Alcock bringing both vulnerability and personal perspective to the role, Supergirl is poised to offer audiences a portrayal rooted in emotional depth as much as heroism. Her reflections suggest a version of Kara shaped not only by strength and resilience, but by healing, self-discovery, and the courage to confront what has long been left unspoken.
