DC Studios is continuing to expand the cast of "Man of Tomorrow", with actor Matthew Lillard officially joining the upcoming film. The casting news was first reported by Deadline, drawing immediate attention as the project continues to take shape.
Lillard's casting also marks a notable reunion with director James Gunn, who wrote the script for the 2002 "Scooby-Doo" film in which Lillard portrayed the role of Shaggy. While the collaboration has generated additional interest, Lillard's role in "Man of Tomorrow" has not yet been disclosed and remains officially under wraps. Currently in production, the film continues the storyline established in "Superman" (2025), further developing the foundation of DC Studios' rebooted cinematic universe under the creative direction of Gunn.
The film stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprising their respective roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor. The story centers on an uneasy alliance between the two longtime adversaries, who are forced to work together when confronted by a larger cosmic threat in the form of Brainiac. Together, they must navigate a tense and high-stakes conflict that challenges their opposing philosophies and tests the limits of their cooperation.
As production continues, "Man of Tomorrow" is emerging as a cornerstone of DC Studios' evolving slate of interconnected films. With its expanding ensemble, large-scale narrative ambitions, and established creative leadership, the project is positioned as one of the studio's most significant upcoming releases ahead of its July 9, 2027 premiere.
