Actress and comedian Mary Holland has joined the cast of DC Studios' upcoming television series centered on Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, adding another major name to the growing ensemble for the HBO Max production.
According to multiple entertainment industry reports, Holland will portray a character named Sandra, who is expected to serve as the series' primary female lead opposite Skyler Gisondo, who reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen following his appearance in DC Studios' Superman. Specific details about Sandra and her role in the story have not been disclosed, and neither HBO Max nor DC Studios has officially commented on the casting reports.
The series - which is tentatively titled "DC Crime" - is expected to take an unconventional approach to the DC Universe by blending superhero storytelling with the style of a true-crime mockumentary. Jimmy Olsen will reportedly investigate a series of extraordinary cases involving super-powered criminals, with Gorilla Grodd said to be the central focus of the first season. Actor and comedian Jimmy Tatro has previously been reported to portray the iconic telepathic ape.
The project is being developed by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creative team behind the acclaimed satirical series American Vandal, who will serve as writers, executive producers and showrunners. DC Studios co-chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran are also executive producers as the studio continues to expand its interconnected DC Universe across film and television.
Holland is best known for her work in comedy, with credits including Ghosts, Senior Year, Happiest Season and numerous appearances in television and film. Her casting continues the series' emphasis on comedic talent as it develops what is expected to be one of DC Studios' most unconventional live-action projects.
No premiere date has been announced, and production details remain under wraps as the series continues to assemble its cast.
