Larry DiTillio, Writer for 'Ruby-Spears Superman', Passes Away at Age 71

by Neil Cole

Film and TV series writer Larry DiTillio has passed away at the age of 71 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.

He was a writer on the short-lived 1988 Superman animated series which aired Saturday mornings on CBS and was produced by Ruby-Spears Enterprises for Warner Bros. Television to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Man of Steel.

DiTillio is best known for his work on the original "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" series and as a co-creator alongside J. Michael Straczynski of the spinoff show, "She-Ra: Princess of Power", in which he came up with most of the initial character's names.

DiTillio also served as an executive story editor of the science-fiction series "Babylon 5" and wrote many of the episodes for the animated series "Beast Wars". He returned to the world of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" in 2002 as a writer on the updated series.

His last writing credit was for a 2009 episode of the Cartoon Network animated series "Transformers: Animated" entitled "Predacons Rising".

The staff of the Superman Super Site wish to extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the DiTillio family during this difficult time of mourning.
