DC Studios has announced that actor Jimmy Tatro will portray the legendary DC Comics villain Gorilla Grodd in the upcoming HBO Max series focused on Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen.
Tatro, known for his roles in "American Vandal", "Theater Camp", and "Home Economics", will bring the fan-favorite supervillain to the screen as part of the expanding DC Universe. Gorilla Grodd, a highly intelligent and telepathic gorilla with a long history in DC Comics, has traditionally served as one of The Flash’s most dangerous adversaries, though the character has also appeared throughout the broader DC Universe as a threat to multiple heroes.
The upcoming series will feature Skyler Gisondo reprising his role as Jimmy Olsen, first introduced in DC Studios’ "Superman" (2025). The project follows Olsen and his Daily Planet colleagues as they investigate extraordinary events involving metahuman activity, blending elements of investigative storytelling with the larger superhero world established under DC Studios.
The casting continues Tatro’s ongoing collaboration with American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, who are developing the series and serving as executive producers. The project is among several television offerings being developed as part of DC Studios’ interconnected slate overseen by co-chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gorilla Grodd’s inclusion marks another major addition to the growing lineup of DC characters being introduced within the new DC Universe. Additional details regarding production, supporting cast members, and release plans are expected to be announced at a later date.
