James Gunn to Cease Debunking "Superman: Legacy" Rumors

Posted on May 22, 2023 by Neil Cole

Following the announcement in January that the Man of Steel would be returning to theater screens in "Superman: Legacy", rumors concerning the film have been posted constantly especially in regard to the yet-to-be-announced cast.

On an equal basis, writer and director James Gunn has been taking to Twitter and Instagram to debunk the majority of these rumors. However, after an especially busy week of addressing such rumors, Gunn has now announced that he will cease giving any potential leakers a platform.

"I'm getting barraged with bull-- DC rumors this morning," stated Gunn on Twitter. "I'll just reiterate the general rule not to believe anything unless it comes from me or Peter. But, unless it's especially egregious, I'm going to slow down on calling sh-- out. (Sorry, I know, it's one of my favorite traditions)."

Gunn went on to explain that while production on "Superman: Legacy" begins to move into full gear, addressing the hundreds of rumors he hears every day is just too time consuming.

"There are three reasons for this: 1) Some people are making up lies to get attention from me or to get clicks & I don't want to encourage that. 2) I've read a hundred rumors this morning. ONE of them is half-true. So I don't want to be used as a way for people to throw nonsense at the wall until something sticks. 3) I'm storyboarding Superman: Legacy and don't have time! Have a great day!"

"Superman: Legacy" will tell the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Gunn along with industry veteran Peter Safran were appointed to the new roles of Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of DC Studios in November, 2021 and are spearheading the development and execution of a long-term plan for the many properties licensed from DC Comics, focused on continuing the tradition of high-quality storytelling for the DC Universe across audio-visual media, while building a sustainable growth business out of the iconic franchise.

"Superman: Legacy" is currently scheduled to soar into theaters worldwide on July 11, 2025.
