Max Fleischer Superman Cartoons

Fans of classic Superman animation will have an opportunity to see Max Fleischer’s groundbreaking Superman cartoons on the big screen when The Superman Cartoons of Max Fleischer comes to Oaks Center Cinema in Oaks, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 21. The special presentation is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and will showcase newly restored versions of the landmark 1941-42 Fleischer Studios shorts.

The program is presented by Fabulous Fleischer Cartoons Restored, the restoration initiative spearheaded by Max Fleischer’s granddaughter, Jane Fleischer Reid. The films are presented in newly restored 4K resolution from 35mm archival prints, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the classic animation in a presentation designed to recapture its theatrical impact.

The Superman portion of the program includes The Mechanical Monsters, Billion Dollar Limited, The Arctic Giant, The Bulleteers and Terror on the Midway, along with a documentary introduction about the cartoons. The complete program also includes Koko’s Earth Control, Play Safe, I Never Changes Me Altitude, Is My Palm Read? and Koko At the Circus, bringing Betty Boop, Popeye and Koko the Clown into the presentation.

Originally produced as theatrical shorts, the Fleischer Superman cartoons are widely regarded as landmark achievements in animation. Their distinctive art direction, detailed backgrounds, dramatic action and sophisticated use of animation helped establish an enduring visual interpretation of the Man of Steel and influenced later generations of superhero animation. The restoration program also offers longtime fans a chance to see these films in a setting closer to the theatrical environment for which they were created.

The Oaks Center Cinema presentation will run approximately 86 minutes and is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. at 180 Mill Road in Oaks, Pennsylvania. Tickets and additional event information are available through the theater’s official listing for The Superman Cartoons of Max Fleischer.
