Daily Planet Globe Relocated to Noel Neill Statue

The plaza surrounding the Noel Neill statue in Metropolis, IL has a new addition in the form of the Daily Planet globe which was formally located in front of the Metropolis Planet newspaper offices.

The globe itself was originally gifted to the Metropolis Planet in 1994 as a surprise by Superman Museum curator Jim Hambrick and the late Floyd McIntosh who owned a couple of antique stores in town. Mr. Hambrick had the globe designed and fabricated from a former mooring buoy which is used by large ships and barges to anchor to in deep oceanic areas.

The decision to relocate the globe to the plaza surrounding the Noel Neill statue was made following the recent announcement that the Metropolis Planet would be closing it's offices in Metropolis and relocating operations to the Paducah Sun across the Ohio River in Paducah, KY.

The Noel Neill statue was unveiled during the 2010 Superman Celebration and is based on the late actresses' portrayal of intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane in the movie serial, "Superman vs Atom Man" as well as the 1950's "Adventures of Superman" television series opposite George Reeves as the Man of Steel.

The new location of the Daily Planet globe is a perfect compliment to the Noel Neill statue and homage to the Lois Lane character. It will continue to serve as a popular photo-op for the thousands of tourists and Superman fans that visit Metropolis each year.
