'DC Super Powers' Animated Series Receives New First Look
A new first-look image from the upcoming animated series “DC Super Powers” has been revealed by Digital eMation, the animation studio working on the Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios production. Posted to the studio's website, the image offers the latest glimpse at the show's colorful visual style and its young cast of aspiring superheroes as production continues on the series.
“DC Super Powers” is set at the Alliance School for Heroes, where young versions of Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern and Terra learn to develop their abilities under the supervision of Principal Martian Manhunter. The students are training to become the next generation of heroes and protectors within the DC Universe. Matt Beans serves as executive producer, with veteran DC animation director Michael Chang as supervising producer.
Additional details about the series were revealed earlier this year during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Beans described the show's central theme as finding the hero within oneself. The students arrive at the academy with their own fears and insecurities to overcome while learning to master their abilities. Footage presented at Annecy reportedly showed the young heroes participating in training exercises before facing a group of giant robotic tigers.
The new image from Digital eMation provides one of the clearest looks yet at the project following its Annecy presentation. The studio is handling animation duties on the series, which was originally announced as part of an expanding slate of animated projects from Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios.
An official premiere date for “DC Super Powers” has not yet been announced. The series remains among DC's upcoming animated projects alongside “My Adventures with Green Lantern” and “Starfire,” with further details regarding its voice cast, episode order and release plans expected at a later date.
