Artist Creates Superman Mural Honoring Metropolis, IL
Artist and muralist Morgan Elyce Summers of Lynn Haven, Florida has created a Superman themed mural honoring the Man of Steel's official hometown of Metropolis, IL.
The mural is the latest addition to Summers' passion project, Small Town Walls which celebrates one unique small town from every state in the US. Each of these pieces is accompanied by a blog article sharing information about the selected town including noteworthy factoids like the city's Hometown Heroes, This Town in History, Must Eats, and similar odd & interesting tidbits.
The Metropolis, IL mural features an art-deco inspired profile image of Superman set against a blue sky and the farm cornfields of Southern Illinois. Summers states that the mural is, "potentially my favorite for the project to date, and of course, the most complicated so far."
Summers' hope is that by putting her small spotlight on these hidden gems, she can help them shine in the public eye as much as they deserve to. In the modern era of commuter-cities and urban development, let's not forget to visit all those charming, wacky, and absolutely wonderful small towns out there!
