'Superman: IV' Costume on Display at Smithsonian National Museum of American History

by Neil Cole

An original Superman costume worn by the late Christopher Reeve in 'Superman: IV - The Quest for Peace" is currently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

In 1987, Reeve reprised the title role in this superhero adventure about Superman's efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons on Earth while also engaging in battle with Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow). Sidney J. Furie directed the film which also stars Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, and Jackie Cooper as Perry White.

The costume is currently on loan from DC Comics through comic book writer, editor and executive Paul Levitz who served as president of the comic book publisher from 2002 - 2009.
