Welcome to the Superman Super Site

Superman is the brainchild of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who first envisioned the character in 1932 and later had his first appearance in Action Comics #1 in June 1938. What Jerry and Joe did not know at the time was that they had created a character that would become the signature icon of DC Comics and the most universally recognized hero in human history.

Since 1938, the character of Superman/Clark Kent has appeared in every imaginable media form including television, film, novelizations, and even a Broadway show.

Being Superman is the childhood fantasy of every little boy and girl (they of course want to be Supergirl). He is an enduring emblem of the American dream, the young immigrant who comes to the United States, embraces the culture and makes something of himself and enriches his adopted nation. He is a classical hero in the modern age who fights criminals, rescues the helpless and has a sense of morals and justice as strong and unshakeable as he is.

Since 1998, the Superman Super Site's mission statement has been to bring you all the latest news, updates, and information pertaining to the Man of Steel and the Superman universe in general.

It is a mission we are proud to maintain for all the fellow Superman fans of the world and everyone who visits our site because, without you, we would not exist.

"Superman & Lois" recently wrapped filming on the final episode of the series following four seasons and marking the end of an era for DC themed shows on The CW Network.

Reflecting back on her role as Lois Lane, actress Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch took to Facebook to share her thoughts on portraying the role of the iconic Daily Planet journalist which began six years ago in The CW Arrowverse "Elseworlds" crossover event.

"How lucky am I, to have been able to inhabit this woman's bones, and brain, and heart, for the last 4 years.

Lois Lane has been an icon for as long as Superman has because of her fierceness, her work ethic, her determination, her playfulness, her commitment to finding the truth no matter the cost.

Thank you to our creator Todd Helbing, co-showrunner Brent Fletcher, all of our writers and producers and post-production team, our incredible VFX department. Thank you @gberlanti and Sarah Schechter @50shadesofgabay and everyone else at Berlanti Productions, everyone at DC Comics, @cdflix @baptv10, Lisa Lewis and everyone else at @warnerbrostv , Mark Pedowitz and @thecw, and to our phenomenal casting director @davidrapaport for telling everyone "This is your Lois" and to @jessicaqueller and @rrtvwriter for seeing and believing it. Thank you @iansamoildirector and everyone else in the production office. And to our on-set crew: #SupermanAndLois was a big, beautiful, epic show and it wouldn't have happened without each and every one of you. Thank you thank you thank you. I already miss you all so much.

Thank you to our wonderfully amazing cast - but mostly to @tylerhoechlin. My Superman. I am so grateful for your talent, your work ethic, and your commitment to making me laugh. I wish the best of luck to @jamesgunn and the rest of his cast and crew, and especially to @rachelbrosnahan - I'm sure you will be a wonderful Lois and I can’t wait to see what you do with the role. Have so much fun - I know I did.

I'll be grateful til the day I die that I had these few years to wake up every day and be.

Lois. Lane."

In a separate post, Tulloch extended her well-wishes to everyone at DC Studios working on the 2025 "Superman" film and shared her excitement to see actress Rachel Brosnahan portrayal of the Lois Lane character.

"I wish the best of luck to James Gunn and the rest of his cast and crew, and especially to Rachel Brosnahan," stated Tulloch. "I'm sure you will be a wonderful Lois and I can't wait to see what you do with the role. Have so much fun - I know I did."

A premiere date for the fourth and final season of "Superman & Lois" has yet to be announced but speculation points to sometime during The CW's 2024 Fall season.

Comic books are American as apple pie and Uncle Sam... aren't they? Visit The Cartoon Museum in London, England this Spring to discover how British artists and writers invaded America and made their mark on iconic superheroes and more!

'HEROES: The British Invasion of American Comics' tells the story of early American comics such as Buster Brown, Miss Fury and Superman, how they influenced British artists and culture, and how the British took that influence and sold it back to America through legendary comics such as Watchmen and V For Vendetta.

The exhibition also celebrates The Mighty World of Marvel which brought Marvel's heroes and heroines to newsagents across Britain every week.

In 1972, Stan Lee launched Marvel UK with an event at The Bung Hole wine bar in Holborn, London. Up until then, UK distribution of American comics had been patchy at best, and fans often had to make do with poorer-quality black and white imitations. The Mighty World of Marvel brought Marvel's heroes and heroines to newsagents across Britain every week, establishing a new fan base and influencing an upcoming generation of comic creators.

We are thrilled to be able to display a rare original press kit given out at the launch event, which has never been on show before.

The exhibition also shines a light on the many British creators who provided art for iconic superheroes including Batman, Spider-Man, Hellboy and Hit-Girl, including works by Brian Bolland, David Lloyd, Doug Braithwaite and Alison Sampson. On the way you'll discover British attempts to imitate American strips in the 1940s, find out the story behind the 1972 launch of Marvel UK, and enjoy stunning artwork by key figures from DC Comics and the British Invasion. You'll even get to see the costume of a real-life British superhero!

The exhibition features an incredible collection of original Sunday Paper Strips and artworks from the early 1900s and wonderful British and American comic art from the 1950s to the modern day. Among these are works by legendary names such as Jack Kirby, Jack Davis and Tarpe Mills.

Since the 1938 publication of Action Comics #1 the world has fallen more and more in love with American comic books, right up to the box office success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Drawing inspiration from popular characters of the 1940s, such as Popeye and Aquaman, the Brits took no time proving they could do it just as well as the Americans, leading to decades of collaboration and competition across the Atlantic. Through this exhibition you will be able to step back in time and see just how right they were.

'HEROES: The British Invasion of American Comics' runs April 35th - October 20th 2024. For more information, please visit CartoonMuseum.org.

A special screening of documentary film, "Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" will be featured during the Nantucket Film Festival which takes place June 19th - 24th, 2024 at various venues in Nantucket, MA.

Moving backward and forward in time, filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui expertly weave together a dual narrative exploring the life-changing impact of two pivotal moments in Christopher Reeve's career: being cast in 1978's Superman and becoming paralyzed in 1995.

Decades before superheroes took over the cinemas, Reeve made the world believe a man could fly; his accident brought worldwide awareness of disability. In Super/Man, Reeve's family and close confidantes demonstrate remarkable candor in their reflections on life before and after the accident. The result is a deeply moving film foregrounding the man behind Superman - not a hagiography, but a full-fledged portrait that encompasses both the soaring heights and the dark depths of Reeve's journey.

"Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" is produced by Bonhôte, Robert Ford, Lizzie Gillett, Words+Pictures, Passion Pictures, and Misfits Entertainment in association with Jenco Films. Executive producers include Daniel Kilroy, Kristen Lappas, Marie Margolius, Mark Meatto, David Moulton, Andee Ryder, Connor Schell, and Libby Geist.

The annual Superman Celebration is held in Metropolis, Illinois during the second weekend of June and is the place to go if you are a big fan of the Man of Steel. My wife Helen and I have been attending the event for a very long time and, from my own personal experience, I can definitely say it is worth the trip.

I had been wanting to attend ever since I heard about the celebration in the Summer of 1987 when the media began covering the 50th Anniversary of Superman's debut in "Action Comic No. 1" in 1938. This is also when I first learned about the founder of the Super Museum, Jim Hambrick, on Entertainment Tonight and about Metropolis on local news channels.

Although I was initially doubtful at the time that I would ever be able to attend the celebration, eleven years later, Helen and I made the journey for my birthday in 1998. Words can't begin to describe the excitement I had that year which included meeting Mr. Hambrick and wandering through the Super Museum many times.

We also had the opportunity to watch the three-hour-long version of "Superman the Movie" which was hosted by Jim Bowers from CapedWonder.com and met actor Lane Smith who starred as Perry White in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". I was captivated by the friendliness and the magic of Metropolis and couldn't wait to go back again.

Our next visit would be seven years later in 2005 which, in addition to more events being added to the celebration, saw a couple of dreams coming true including meeting actress Noel Neil (Lois Lane from "The Adventures of Superman" starring George Reeves) and her manager/autobiographer, Larry Ward whom we would both become very good friends with over the years.

Another dream coming true was meeting actress Margot Kidder - who starred in the role of Lois Lane in the Christopher Reeve films - and being able to purchase a Christopher Reeve replica cape which she had available at her table. After autographing the cape for me and discovering it was my Birthday, she put it around my neck and sang "Happy Birthday" making this one of the greatest moments in my life.

This year would also mark the first time I participated in and won Superman Jeopardy which is a trivia game show event hosted annually during the celebration by John and Alex Rinaldi from The USA Boxing News. Contestants are chosen from the audience and both John and Alex along with their sons and daughters ask Superman-related trivia questions with prizes given out to those on stage and in the audience. In my opinion, Superman Jeopardy is the best event during the celebration and John and I have become life-long friends.

Another great friend that I made in 2005 is actor Scott Cranford who was the official Superman of the Superman Celebration from 2000 – 2007. We have been attending the celebration every year since and have met many celebrities and fellow attendees that have also become life-long friends over the years including Brian and Cookie Morris, Sam Rizzo, Tim Gardner, Kenny Richardson, and actor Joshua Boultinghouse who become Metropolis' new official Superman in 2008.

Visitors to Cleveland, OH will soon have the opportunity to visit a new plaza paying tribute to Superman after the project received approval from the Cleveland Planning Commission.

The plaza will be located downtown at the Huntington Convention Center and will feature an 18-foot tall stainless steel statue of Superman, a phone booth complete with clothing from Clark Kent, and a bronze statue featuring Cleveland natives and co-creators of the Man of Steel, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster along with Siegel's wife, Joanne pointing and looking up at Superman.

"Philadelphia has Rocky Balboa, Milwaukee has the 'Bronze Fonz.' In Cleveland, we want to bring the 'Man of Steel,'" stated architect and project manager, Nick Slaughterbeck of the Moody Nolan design firm. "Superman is arguably one of the greatest cultural contributions to American pop culture in all of American history. Cleveland should be very proud of that."

The plaza and statues were originally planned to be placed alongside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum. However, in 2018, the developer of the property ultimately decided against allowing the project to be placed at that location.

The approved new location will require a few modifications as requested by the Cleveland Planning Commission including revisions to concrete and grassy areas, a different location for a commemorative plaque, the addition of back-to-back benches, and the creation of an ideal spot for photo and social media opportunities.

The Siegel & Shuster Society non-profit volunteer organization which is dedicated to commemorating and celebrating the creation of Superman in Cleveland will be funding costs associated with the construction of the plaza sculptures and infrastructure while maintenance of the plaza will be handled by the Cuyahoga County Convention Facilities Development Corporation.

A prospective completetion date for the Superman Tribute Plaza has yet to be announced at this time.
