Actor Wendell Pierce has been cast in the role of Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief, Perry White in director James Gunn's "Superman".
Pierce is best known for his starring roles as Det. William 'Bunk' Moreland in the HBO series "The Wire" and as Vice Admiral James Greer in the Amazon Prime Video series "Jack Ryan". He has also had starring roles in such films as "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2," "Selma", and "Clemency".
Pierce will be the latest actor to portray the role of the iconic DC Comics character on the silver screen following performances by Jackie Cooper in the four Christopher Reeves films, Frank Langella in "Superman Returns", and Laurence Fishburne in the Snyderverse trilogy.
"Superman" tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
In addition to Pierce, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and model Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
"Superman" is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
