An original, unrestored copy of "Superman #1" (CGC FA 1.5) has sold for US$198,600.00 at Heritage Auctions "Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction" which took place June 16th - 19th. Heritage offers the following description of the vintage comic book:
A book that's Super-desirable in any grade. It currently ranks #3 on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics. The issue hit the newsstands barely a year after Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1. Supe's origin is featured in this premiere issue of his eponymous title. Co-creator Joe Shuster provided the front cover, the back cover pinup, and the interior art for the book. CGC notes, "Spine of cover completely split & cover detached."
The value of "Superman #1" continues to increase with other CGC graded copies in similar condition selling for $19,120.00 in 2010, $71,700.00 in 2015, and $90,000.00 in 2020.
