An original vintage copy of "Superman #1" (CGC 1.8) from 1939 has sold for $288,000 at the Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction #7283 hosted by Heritage Auctions who offers the following description:

A book that's Super-desirable in any grade. Currently ranked at #3 on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics, the issue hit the newsstands barely a year after Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1. Superman's origin is featured in this premiere issue of his eponymous title. Co-creator Joe Shuster provided the front cover, the back cover pinup, and the interior art for the book. The spine of this one is completely split, hence the modest number on the label, but the chance to get this kind of eye appeal for a GD- price is enticing indeed.

A CGC-graded 8.0 copy of Superman #1 sold earlier this year for $5.3 million making it the most expensive comic book on record. The issue was sold by famed comics retailer Mile High Comics and privately traded hands in January with both the buyer and the seller opting to remain anonymous.
