Vintage Copy of "Action Comics #1" Available at Auction
An original vintage copy of "Action Comics #1" (CGC 5.5) featuring the first appearance of Superman will be available for bidding at the upcoming Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction hosted by Heritage Auctions on June 17th - 19th, 2021.
The stature of this iconic issue just grows larger every year. Far and away the most valuable comic book ever published, Overstreet's listed value increased from 2019 to 2020 by an amount that exceeded the total value of all but the top eight books on its Top 100 Golden Age Comics list! And it invariably fetches way more than Guide prices.
Heritage Auctions last sold a Universal copy of the rare comic three years ago, and the current offering is the most attractive copy offered by the auction house in nearly five years. CGC notes this as "From the Collection of Jon Berk" and "Conservation includes: cover cleaned, cover reinforced, staples replaced."
A high-grade copy of "Action Comics #1" (CGC 8.5) was recently sold earlier this year in a private Comic Connect auction for $2,052,000 making it the third-highest price ever paid for a comic book. The Guinness World Record price is still held by a near-mint copy (graded a 9.0) which made headlines in August, 2014 when it sold for $3.2 million.
