A vintage conserved copy of Action Comics #1 (DC, 1938), the landmark comic book that introduced Superman to the world, is now being offered through Heritage Auctions. Certified by CGC as Conserved FN/VF 7.0 with Off-white to White pages, the issue ranks among the finest conserved examples known, with only one conserved copy graded higher on the CGC census.
Heritage Auctions describes the comic as one of the most visually impressive copies it has handled, citing its vivid cover colors, strong page quality, and comparatively limited conservation work. CGC notes identify professional conservation consisting of a tear seal to the cover, cover reinforcement, and cover cleaning.
First published in 1938, Action Comics #1 launched the superhero genre and transformed popular culture through the debut of Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The issue remains one of the most important and recognizable comic books ever produced and is widely regarded as the foundation of the modern comic book industry.
The offering also includes a charitable component benefiting Hero Initiative, Book Industry Charitable Foundation, and ComicsPRO. A portion of the commission from the transaction will be donated to the organizations, with the consignor and owner jointly supporting the initiative in recognition of the assistance these groups provide to members of the comics and publishing communities.
As one of the finest conserved copies of Action Comics #1 ever brought to market, the offering represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a cornerstone artifact of American popular culture while also supporting organizations dedicated to the future of the comic book industry.
