Tom Welling Returning to Clark Kent Role for Arrowverse Crossover Event

by Neil Cole

The CW has announced that actor Tom Welling will be returning to his "Smallville" role as Clark Kent/Superman for the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earth's crossover event.

"For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it," executive producer Marc Guggenheim. "So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we're thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement."

"Arrow" star Stephen Amell also chimed in on the huge announcement tweeting, "There'd be no crossover without Tom Welling. So Tom Welling is in the crossover."

Fans have long hoped that Welling would one day return to his "Smallville" role or at least be featured as another iconic DC Comics character on one of the many current DC-themed television shows.

Welling is now the third actor who will now be featured as a version of Clark Kent/Superman in the Arrowverse crossover event. He will join Tyler Hoechlin who will return as the "Supergirl" version of the Man of Steel and Brandon Routh who will appear as "Kingdom Come" version of Superman.

The Crisis on Infinite Earth's crossover event will air on "Supergirl" on Sunday, December 8th at 8PM, "Batwoman" on Monday, December 9th at 8PM, "The Flash" on Tuesday, December 10th at 8PM, "Arrow" on Tuesday, January 14th at 8PM, and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" on Tuesday, January 14th at 9PM.
